The Hog Island Lighthouse was built in 1817 and iocated at the western end of Paradise Island (formerly Hog Island) marking the northwest entrance to Nassau Harbor. Good view from cruise ships entering the harbor. The site is still active with a focal plane of 21 m (69 ft). It flashes every 5 seconds, generally white, but the light changes to red when conditions are dangerous for entry. 19 m (63 ft) round old-style brick tower with lantern and gallery, painted white; lantern painted red. This is the oldest and best known lighthouse in the Bahamas and the oldest surviving lighthouse in the West Indies.
