Shanthi Theatre is a prominent cinema theater located on the arterial Mount Road in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The theater was the first air-conditioned theater of Chennai and was inaugurated on January 12, 1961 by Shri K. Kamaraj, then Chief Minister of Madras State. A movie on Lord Venkateswara was screened during the inauguration. The theater is owned by the family of Nadigar Thilagam, late Sivaji ganesan and it is no surprise that a total of 83 films of the actor have been screened so far at the theater. A renovation of the theater was completed in 2005 and the renovated complex was inaugurated on 13th April, 2005. Recently, the site www.shanticinemas.com was launched using which fans can book their tickets online for movies currently screening at the theater.
