This location in the Cape Town area has been eluding us for sometime now. It all started with our quest to find the location that was used in the Behka song. Since we knew that the song was shot in Cape Town, we started looking at the popular tourist attractions in Cape Town but the location was nowhere to be found. After repeated attempts over a period of 1 month, finally found out this location. Again, like we had said in the past, finding locations like these are what running this site so much fun.
About the location (from Wiki):
The Afrikaans Language Monument is located on a hill overlooking Paarl, Western Cape Province, South Africa. Officially opened on 10 October 1975, it commemorates the semicentenary of Afrikaans being declared an official language of South Africa separate from Dutch. Also, it was erected on the 100th anniversary of the founding of Genootskap van Regte Afrikaners (the Society of Real Afrikaaners) in Paarl, the organization that helped strengthen Afrikaners’ identity and pride in their language.
The monument consists of various tapering structures of a convex and concave nature, symbolising influences of different languages and cultures on Afrikaans itself, as well as political developments in South Africa. The language monument at Paarl wasn’t the first monument to commemorate Afrikaans. That honour goes to the monument in Burgersdorp, South Africa, which was built in 1893. The monument depicts a woman pointing her finger at a book in her hands.
