Educational institutions have been a staple filming location for our directors, given the unique buildings that we can only seen in a college or university campus. But the reason why the director of the Tamil movie, Susi Ganesan, chose this campus was pretty simple. It is the same reason why we at WWIS also chose this campus to kick start out series on colleges/ universities as filming locations. Two words – ALMA MATER. In fact, Susi Ganesan had even made couple of our actual professors to ‘act’ in the movie. The open area kind of thing where the majority of the title song is shot in what is called a hangar which as the name implies, was used to ‘park’ small aircrafts. The hangar is these days used for venues for public examinations, as a stage for college functions and display area of technical exhibitions. The picture above is of one of our hostels which is where the song below actually starts off at.

It is indeed unfortunate that we do not have better pictures of our college. So, if anyone from MIT is reading this post and if you happen to have some high resolution images of our college, please contact us! We would be delighted to post them here.

About the location (from Wiki):
The Madras Institute of Technology is an engineering institute located in Chromepet, Madras (Chennai), India. It is one of the four autonomous constituent colleges of the Anna University. It was started in 1949 by Mr. C. Rajam as the first self-financing engineering institute in the country, and later it merged with Anna University. The Institute was at that time an experiment in technical education, for it introduced to India new areas of specialization: aeronautical engineering, automobile engineering, electronics engineering, and instrumentation technology. The MIT is the first institute in India to offer postgraduate courses in avionics and mechatronics. This Institute has a unique practice of “T-Series”, a student mentoring system by senior students. The alumni of this institute have achieved prominence in various fields and include Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam (the “missile-man of India”), and writer Sujatha among others. The cultural festival of MIT, Mitafest, is famous in India.
