Chennakesava Temple – Belur, Karnataka

Another day. Another temple location. We had confused the Chennakesava Temple at Somanathapura with this one of the same name at Belur until a visitor to the site pointed out the glaring mistake to us. The 2 temples look very similar to each other as they have been built using the same Hoysala Architecture. Again, there is only one movie song sequence that we know of currently that has been shot here. But we are sure there are more movies that were filmed at this location. Will be looking forward to your inputs on that.
About the location (from Wiki):
The Chennakesava Temple originally called Vijayanarayana Temple was built on the banks of the Yagachi River in Belur, an early capital of the Hoysala Empire. Belur is 40 km from Hassan city and 220 km from Bangalore, in Hassan district of Karnataka state, India. Chennakesava literally means “handsome Kesava” and is a form of Hindu God Vishnu. Belur is well-known for its marvelous temples, built during the rule of Hoysala dynasty, making it and nearby Halebidu, a favored tourist destination in Karnataka.
The main entrance to the complex is crowned by a Rayagopura built during the days of Vijayanagar empire. Within the temple complex, the Chennakesava temple is in the centre, facing east and flanked by Kappe Channigraya temple and a small Lakshmi temple on its right. On its left and to its back is an Andal temple. Two main Sthambha (pillar) exist here. The pillar facing the main temple was erected in the Vijayanagar period while the pillar on the right dates from the Hoysala period. This is the first great Hoysala temple, though the artistic idiom is still Western Chalukyan. Hence, over decoration which is seen in later Hoysala temples (including the Hoysaleswara temple at Halebidu and the Keshava temple at Somanathapura) is not visible here.

I actually wanted to comment on the other location to check whether this song was shot there! Just saw this post. Talk about co-incidence!

You were kind of right, Karthick. That song from Raasi was shot at the Chennakesava Temple in Somanathapura and not in Belur. Those 2 temples look very similar to each other. Anyway, I have added the song to the list of movies shot at that location.
