Hampi is such a popular location that it should come as a surprise that it has taken us this long to post this location to the site. The reason we were taking so long to post this site was because we were trying to gather names of movies that were shot here (other than the one we already knew). But couldn’t get very far on that and so decided to go ahead and post it and then rely on inputs of visitors like you to expand the list of movies shot at this location. Though there might be other movies that were shot here, the Theendaai mei Theendaai song from the Tamil movie ‘En Swaasa KaattraE’ showcases the breathtaking beauty of this site like no other.

About the location (from Wiki):
Hampi (Hampe in Kannada) is a village in northern Karnataka state, India. It is located within the ruins of Vijayanagara, the former capital of the Vijayanagara Empire. Predating the city of Vijayanagara, it continues to be an important religious center, housing the Virupaksha Temple, as well as several other monuments belonging to the old city. As the village is at the original center of Vijayanagara, it is sometimes confused with the ruined city itself. The ruins are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, listed as the Group of Monuments at Hampi.

The name is derived from Pampa, which is the old name of the Tungabhadra River on whose banks the city is built. The name “Hampi” is an anglicized version of the Kannada Hampe (derived from Pampa). Over the years, it has also been referred to as Vijayanagara and Virupakshapura (from Virupaksha, the patron deity of the Vijayanagara rulers).

    Hi KP,

We couldn’t spot Hampi in the Barso Re song from Guru. Was it used in some other song/ scene in the same movie?

    Thanks!
