Dhom Lake/ Dam – Wai

This area around Wai near Pune comprising of Mahabaleshwar, Dhom Lake, Krishna River, Dhom Dam and the Krishna Valley has got to be one of the prettiest places in the country. This location first caught our attention when we read news items during the filming of Superstar’s Sivaji The Boss about how the opening song Balleilakka was shot in the Wai area. A little more digging led us to this truly beautiful place. During our ‘research’, we also found out how this location is a very popular filming location for Bollywood directors and almost the entire movie of Omkara was shot in this area.

Dhom Dam is build on the Krishna river near the towns of Wai & Mahabaleshwar in Maharastra. Wai located in the Satara District, is known in Maharashtra for its ghats on the banks of the Krishna river and its temples, including especially the Dholya Ganapati temple on the Ganapati Ghat. Due to the large number of temples and its architecture, Wai is also called as ‘a town of temples’. Wai is located approximately 65 km south of the city of Pune. It is surrounded by the mountainous region of the Sahyadris; It falls under rainshadow area.
