Like the Royagopura in Melkote, this temple tank – named Kalyani – and its surrounding mantapams have been featured in umpteen number of songs. The more songs we see, more is the number of times that we see a song or two that have been shot here. We start this post with only 2 movies that have been shot here but we are sure that number is only bound to increase. Among the 2 videos that we start with here, the ‘Devuda Devuda’ song in Chandramukhi is the one that remained etched in our minds and the moment we saw a picture of this tank and its surrounding mantapams, we instantly recognized the location which formed the premise of this post. Portions of the Velli malare song (from Jodi) have been shot in the nearby Akka Tangi kola.

About the location:
The Kalyani tank is at the base of the Yoga Narasimha temple, one of the 2 most popular temples of Melkote. There is also a pair of sister tanks called -Akka Tangi Kola, two near identical tanks built right next to each other. Melukote in Pandavapura taluk of Mandya district, Karnataka, is one of the sacred places in Karnataka. The place is also known as Thirunarayanapuram. It is built on rocky hills known as Yadavagiri or Yadugiri overlooking the Cauvery valley. It is about 51 km from Mysore and 133 km from Bangalore.
