It is really amazing that this bridge has been open for close to a century now. We at wherewasitshot.com have been on a train as it went through this railway bridge. The experience is definitely worth visiting solely for. But only when the adjacent Pamban road bridge was constructed and opened to the public back in the 90s, did this rail bridge become photo-worthy or in other words, the road bridge provided the perfect platform for everyone to capture the rail bridge in all its glory. We are indeed surprised that not many movies/ songs have been picturized here and the only song that we have seen where the bridge was brought out beautifully was the Mun Paniyaa song from the movie Nandha. Though this bridge comes only for a few fleeting seconds in the song, it nevertheless manages to leave such a lasting impression, that the moment I think of this wonderful song, this bridge is the first thing that comes to my mind.

About the location (from Wiki):

The Pamban Bridge on the Palk Strait connects Rameswaram on Pamban Island to mainland India. It is India’s first sea bridge and still is the second longest sea bridge in India (after Bandra-Worli Sea Link) at a length of about 2.3 km. The railway bridge was opened for traffic in 1914. The railroad bridge is a still-functioning double-leaf bascule bridge section that can be raised to let ships pass under the bridge. The railway bridge historically carried meter-gauge trains on it, but Indian Railways upgraded the bridge to carry broad-gauge trains in a project that finished Aug. 12, 2007. Until recently, the two leaves of the bridge were opened manually using levers by workers[2]. About 10 ships — cargo carriers, coast guard ships, fishing vessels and oil tankers — pass through the bridge every month. The bridge is located at the “world’s second highly corrosive environment”, next to Miami, US, making the construction a challenging job.
