Delhi & its surrounding areas have their long list of such historic monuments that it comes as no surprise that the Purana Qila which is pretty much ‘in’ Delhi, as one of the 7 cities of Delhi. Though the picture above is that of Sher Mandal, the entire Purana Qila complex where it is housed has been used in the song in question here – Agar Main Kahoon from the movie Lakshya. The reason for using a picture of Sher Mandal for this post is because it is not only where the song starts but is also set as the backdrop of the scene where Hrithik meets Preity for the first time after giving up on IMA & returning back home.

Purana Qila is the inner citadel of the city of Dina-panah, founded by the second Mughal Emperor, Humayun in 1533 and completed five years later. Purana Qila and its environs flourished as the sixth city of Delhi and are located on the banks of the river Yamuna. The fort was built at the site of ancient city of Indraprastha founded by the Pandavas from Mahabharata period, which is considered the ‘First City of Delhi’, in fact until 1913, a village called Indrapat existed with the fort walls, and the present citadel stands on an ancient mound, excavations near its eastern wall have revealed that the site has been continuously occupied since 1000 BC.
