College campuses are another favorite choices of our directors when it comes to shooting spots of movies. If the movie’s themes has got to do anything with a college, our directors head straight to the college campuses. And if the campus has traditional buildings (like the College of Engineering, Guindy) built during the British regime, it also provides a perfect backdrop for shooting court related scenes.

And that brings us to this location – the College of Engineering, Guindy. Though as an alum of the university I have never witnessed any movie shootings, it becomes easily recognizable when I see the campus in any movie. The climax scene of Nayagan (Neenga nallavaraa? kettavaraa?) is probably the most popular scene that was shot in the main building of the College of Engineering, Guindy campus.

About the location:
The College of Engineering, Guindy is one of the 4 constituent colleges of the prestigious Anna University and housed in a very spacious campus. The Guindy Engineering College was established in the 1794 and that should explain the architecture of the buildings in the campus, including the main campus which is where the Nayagan climax scene was shot. It is located in Guindy and has the Raj Bhavan, Gandhi Museum, IIT Madras and Adyar Cancer Institute at shout-out distances.

Movies shot at the location:
Climax scene from Nayagan
Ganja burning scene from Kodi Parakkudhu
Oor Oramaa from Idhaya Kovil
Scene right after the Shock Adikkudhu Sona song from Aasai
